When Bering for the first time entered
In the Northwest Passage,
He went out on a deserted shore,
And the steamship was driving past.

There Bonaparte worked as a cook,
But he did not prepare food –
He only viewed with a fierce eye 
The solid smooth of empty water.

There he raced wildly between rocks
And cut the water like a dagger.
